Regan is a cute 4-year-old dog that lost her owner not so long ago. She was quite frightened and confused when she landed in a Lebanon, TN shelter. That’s when Kim Mozena Rezac came to her aid. She liberated Regan from the harsh atmosphere at the shelter – even though the shelter was actually nice, no shelter compares to living at home.
Understandably, Regan seemed exceedingly grateful at the innervation. Watch the video here, on Kim Mozena Rezac’s Facebook as the due get far away from the shelter while Styx is playing in the background.
“She wanted to hold my hand the whole way. If I took it away she would paw at it,” Kim Mozena Rezac told TODAY. “She just wanted to be touching.”
Rezac is the founder of Goofy Foot Dog Rescue and director of animal welfare for Animal Rescue Corps. It took her three days to properly earn Regan’s trust.
“You could tell she was scared and afraid. I would go in and give her treats and sit with her and talk,” Rezac said. “Our shelter is wonderful, and our volunteers do such a great job with the animals. But I hated for her to be there if she could be curled up on a couch at my house.”
It’s a 2.5-hour drive to Huntingdon, TN and Regan held Rezac’s hand all the way through.
“I think she felt secure in touching someone familiar,” Rezac said. “She was so nervous and scared in the shelter but as soon as she jumped into my car she seemed so grateful.”
Rezac shot the video for two different reasons – because she was moved by the experience, but also to put Regan in front of potential adopters. And it worked! The video gathered over a million views and Regan got numerous inquiries.
A couple of days later (this video was shot in February) Rezac placed Regan with a foster-to-adopt couple. They were so happy they said they “were meant to have her.”
“It’s a wonderful situation,” Rezac said.
Rezac still had another conclusion after the whole event – she hopes that people start planning better for their pets. It’s important to always someone to take care of your pet should something happen to you – this is the best way to make sure your beloved friend won’t end up in a shelter. Regan’s previous owner was only in her early 50s, which isn’t too old of an age, but still.
“I’m sure she thought she had much more time left. But none of us really know,” she said.
