You can save yourself some money and provide your dog with a high quality diet by making his food in your own kitchen. Oftentimes you can purchase fresh ingredients from your local farmer’s market. You may also be able to use food that you grow in your own garden!
This is a very simple recipe to make. The prep work is the hardest part. If you’d like to use a different protein source, just choose a protein that your dog enjoys and cut it into small chunks about the size of a penny. Prep for this recipe usually takes me about 10 minutes.

- 2 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken
- 1.5 lbs. lean ground beef
- 1 cup quick oats
- 12 ounces mixed veggies
Add the chicken and beef to a large stock pot. Cover the meat with water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Once at a boil, remove the cover and allow the recipe to simmer for 30 minutes.
By this time, the protein should be cooked thoroughly. Shred the chicken and break the ground beef into small, bite-size pieces.
Add the oats and vegetables and simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Once finished, stir the recipe until the ingredients are evenly combined.
