Dachshunds flaunt a beautiful velvety coat that shines like a brand new mink blanket sleeping on your sofa or bed and sometimes at your doorstep waiting for you to return from office. Dachshunds are typically badger dogs that were bred to hunt the vicious weasels which ultimately lead towards a fight to the death. Let’s take a peek at some of the interesting facts every dachshund owners must know.

Stubborn yet super smart:

Dachshunds are born hunters which means they won’t ever back down and give up easily. They are smart enough to find the easiest way to catch their prey.

Dachshunds can only be trained with patience:

Training a dachshund requires consistency along with the higher degree of patience that comes with a key motivator such as food or toy. Training without rewards is impossible for this breed.

Long Life:

Any average dachshund can live as long as 14 to 16 years. However, there have been instances where these short heighted breeds love up to an age of 17 to 20. Be sure to get them regular consultation with your vet for good health.

Loud Bark:

Although small in height, dachshunds can bark with a voice and vigor that can scare your mailman thinking there is a big breed dog behind your door. Training them to bring down their intensity should start from a young age to ensure that your neighbors or friends don’t get hesitant while entering your home.

Picky weather preference:

Dachshunds have a small height which is why walking them in the rainy season can be a messy job since the water splashes upon their stomach easily. Good luck getting them to go for a walk during the rainy season. Take a note of this fact and make sure you teach your pooch to enjoy walking regardless of the weather from the age of 2 to 3 months.
