Maisy is an 8-year-old St Bernard and until recently she was thought to have an enormous cancer. As it turned out, however, she had just eaten 4 teddy bears!

Maisy went through a CT scan and this showed an unusually big formation in her stomach and spleen. This lead to the diagnose of “a possible cancer”.

While Maisy was lying “under the knife”, however, the vet Nick Blackburn found out that the unusual formation was actually 4 teddy bears that were just eaten by the dog.

Mr. Blackburn said “this was not something we were expecting to find”.

“We all know certain dogs enjoy chewing things they shouldn’t but managing to devour four full teddy bears is quite a feat,” said Mr. Blackburn.

A CT scan revealed a mass on the dog’s spleen

Nick Blackburn works at Paragon Veterinary Referrals. He said that Maisy had since made a full recovery from her operation. What’s more, the histology report showed no further signs of cancer.

The dog’s owner Jane Dickinson, from Roberttown, near Dewsbury, said that the 4 teddy bears were stolen by Maisy and they actually belonged to the family’s Chihuahuas.

“She will steal the Chihuahuas’ toys and play with them but I’ve never seen her trying to chew them,” said Ms. Dickson

“Her eating habits had been completely normal.”

Ms Dickinson added: “When Maisy went in I did think ‘is she coming out?’ But she is loving life now.”

“It’s like she’s got her youth back.”
