A Chihuahua that weighs less than 20 pounds has no business being abused or neglected by an owner who weighs ten times more than the animal. Any animal abuse, neglect, or abandonment is illegal and should not be tolerated anywhere. Many times, owners don’t take responsibility for their animals when confronted with law enforcement, there are excuses and reasons for why the dog is not hydrated, fed, or groomed.
Animal neglect and abandonment come in many forms, most times people imagine dog left outside without water for hours of each day. Dogs can be overlooked and live in the home with the owner; dogs are left without food, water, or even proper bedding inside of the house too. These animals need the right care and attention and don’t deserve to be mistreated. Lots of animals are dropped off at shelters or left on the side of the road every day.
The way the Chihuahua was found warranted enough for an arrest, which is proof enough that the animal was in bad enough shape for the owner to receive repercussions. If you suspect an animal is being mistreated or improperly take care of, please call the ASPCA, or your closest shelter to investigate the situation. Reaching out to animal control or animal save groups for all animals in danger should be carried out for any dangerous situation.
